Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU/PCU Float position requiring a TX or compact RN license and strong critical care skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute care hospital environment, floating between ICU and PCU units
• ICU has 24 beds and PCU has 26 beds
• Patient ratios are 2:1 in ICU (occasionally 3:1 based on acuity), and 4:1 in PCU
• Common patient cases include post-CABG or PCI, sepsis, DKA, and respiratory failure
• RNs are required to titrate drips such as Levophed, amiodarone, heparin, precedex, propofol, cardene, nitro, neosynephrine, and dopamine
• Ventilators, Bipap, and Airvo equipment are utilized
• Allscripts EMR is used for charting
• Night shift position, 12-hour shifts from 6:45p to 7a, with every other weekend required
• Floating to other departments may be required based on need
• Main responsibilities include managing critically ill patients and titrating multiple drips in both ICU and PCU settings
• No nurse aides are typically present in ICU; PCU has 1-2 aides per shift
• Intensivist available during the day; hospitalist coverage is available at all times
• Respiratory therapy support is available 24/7 in the ICU
• Bedside monitors and a monitor tech are available for patient monitoring
• Navy blue scrubs are required
• New staff will receive orientation, including shifts in both ICU and PCU
• No on-call requirement for this role
• Holiday work may be required depending on coverage
• Candidates must not have been directly employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facilities within the past year
• First time travelers will be considered

Requirements

• Active TX or compact RN license required at time of consideration
• Minimum 3 years of RN experience in critical care
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications are required
• Experience with titrating critical care drips is necessary
• Ability to interpret bedside cardiac monitors and read strips
• Must provide two professional references, including one supervisor from within the last 12 months and a peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years
• Copy of driver’s license is required for consideration
