Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position in a Level IV trauma acute care setting requiring MI RN licensure and advanced certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a hospital-based Emergency Department with a Level IV trauma designation
  • 14-bed emergency room with 2 trauma bays and 3 Fast Track rooms
  • Patient caseload ranges from 40-60 ER visits per day with diagnoses including trauma, MVAs, hunting injuries, and strokes
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:3-4 during the day, increasing after 11 p.m., with only 2 RNs on staff after 3 a.m.
  • 12-hour shifts with start times at 7 a.m. or 10 a.m., with every other weekend required
  • Floating required to inpatient units for assistance as needed
  • Cerner EMR system in use, transitioning to Epic
  • Uses variable drips, central monitoring station for cardiac rhythms
  • Department features 2 triage rooms, overflow holding in attached ACU, and adaptable psych/seclusion spaces
  • Primary duties include providing emergency nursing care, triage, and collaboration with ED physicians and mid-level staff
  • Department supported by CNAs, medics, LPNs, and 24/7 RT and phlebotomy services
  • Expect to transport patients and coordinate with radiology and CT which are available 24/7 nearby
  • No 24/7 in-house security; department relies on maintenance staff, local police, and emergency code systems for security needs
  • Department orientation includes computer-based training, 2 days of floor orientation, and policy review
  • Dress code requires any solid color scrubs, clean and professional appearance
  • Holiday coverage for at least two out of three winter holidays, otherwise rotates every other holiday
  • First-time travelers and duos are welcome to apply
  • Candidates living within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and may be subject to a different pay rate

Requirements

  • Active MI RN license required by start date
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department RN experience
  • Current ACLS, BLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications required (AHA)
  • Experience in acute care and caring for diverse traumatic and medical cases
  • Ability to triage after initial orientation to department policies and procedures
  • Submission must include two professional references (one from a supervisor, one from a supervisor or peer within the specialty)
  • Former employees must not have worked at the facility within the last 6 months
