Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring a GA or compact RN license and strong Med/Tele skills.

Responsibilities

Work in a large hospital environment with Level 1 Trauma and teaching status
Assigned to Med/Surg Telemetry units with 20-36 beds per unit
Typical patient population includes general med surg and telemetry cases
Patient ratios are typically 1:4-6 for RNs
Night shift schedule (1900-0700) with every other weekend required
Must work one of the major winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's)
Required to float to all Med/Surg Tele units within the main hospital and Baldwin as needed
Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Phillips monitors, and VS3 vitals equipment
Central telemetry unit provides monitoring support
Provide comprehensive nursing care to Med/Surg Tele patients, including management of drips and various monitoring support
Supportive multidisciplinary team environment with CNAs, charge nurses, resource nurses, unit secretary, and 24/7 RT and hospitalist coverage
Most units require RNs to draw blood from CVLs; lab collects most other samples
PICC team available for IV access
1 day hospital orientation plus 2 days of departmental orientation
Navy scrubs required for RNs
Free parking available on campus
Busy, team-oriented unit culture
First-time travelers are welcome to apply

Requirements

Active GA or compact RN license
Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg Tele RN experience required
Current BLS certification required
ACLS preferred; EKG competency exam required during onboarding
Proficiency with trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucometer use, and administration of insulin and heparin drips
Experience with telemetry monitoring and charting in EPIC
