Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a skilled Med/Surg Tele RN for a post-surgical care unit, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience and a NC or compact license.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 28-bed post-surgical care unit of a hospital
• Care for patients with orthopedic, spine, trauma, vascular surgeries, and medical overflow
• RN patient ratios are 1:4-6, with possible surges to 1:7-8
• Uses EPIC EMR and BD Alaris IV pumps
• Day shift position with 12-hour shifts from 0700-1900
• Weekend rotation is every other weekend
• Required to float within Region 1 facilities as needed and within scope of practice
• No on-call or callback responsibilities
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays
• Responsibilities include incision care, wound vacs, mobility, patient education, and post-surgical assessments
• Department support includes 24/7 RT and hospitalist, CNA, IV/VAT team, charge nurse, mentor, and rapid response/code teams
• Positive, supportive unit culture
• Two days of departmental orientation provided in addition to facility orientation
• Navy scrubs required
• Free parking in designated areas
• Can approve up to 6 days off (RTO), excluding holidays, with additional time added to contract if needed to fulfill hours
• First-time travelers may be considered, but preference is for experienced travelers

Requirements

• Active NC or compact state RN license required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications required
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required for resource team
• Minimum of 18 months recent Med/Tele RN experience required
• General post-surgical skillset required, including incision and wound care, drains, chest tubes, trach care, NG tube insertion, and use of braces/traction
• Familiarity with EPIC EMR preferred
• Permanent address must be at least 50 miles from home unit
