Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 12-bed Med Surg Telemetry unit, requiring a SD or compact RN license and strong telemetry skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 12-bed Med Surg unit with single and double occupancy rooms
• Patient population includes medical and transitional (swing bed) cases such as PNA, COVID, long-term antibiotics, endocarditis, comfort care, ETOH withdrawal, hyponatremia, CHF, COPD, and Afib
• RN/LPN patient ratio of 1:5-6, acuity dependent
• Uses telemetry monitoring and requires IV skills, central line management, cardiac drips with titration, nebulizer treatments, and high flow O2
• Ability to mix own medications via video conference with pharmacy
• EPIC charting system is used
• Twelve-hour night shifts with every other weekend and holiday rotation
• Floating as helping hands to the ER may be required
• On-call required for one shift during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally
• Provide comprehensive care for a diverse range of medical and transitional patients
• Unit is supported by a CNA per shift, phlebotomy, and wound care RN present three days a week
• Scrub color requirement is navy blue
• Free parking available for staff
• Orientation typically consists of two 12-hour shifts, adjusted based on experience
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Approval of time off will be discussed during the interview

Requirements

• Active SD or compact RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum of 1 year RN experience required
• Comfortable with telemetry, IV skills, central line care, and cardiac drips
• Experience with EPIC charting preferred
• Must live more than 100 miles from the facility
• Permanent staff must wait one full year before being eligible to return as a traveler
