Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring a NM or compact RN license, BLS, NRP, and AWHONN fetal monitoring certification.

Responsibilities

• Work in a Family Birth Center/Labor & Delivery hospital unit
• Patient population includes antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborns
• Shifts are 12-hour days from 5:00 to 17:30, three days per week
• Floating between departments and locations within 20 miles is required
• Uses Epic EMR; onsite training is available
• Responsibilities include triage assessment of patients over 20 weeks, use of obstetric acuity tools, labor assessment, fetal evaluation, and managing critical obstetric conditions
• Prepare and care for expectant mothers throughout labor and delivery, including administering obstetric and emergency medications
• Immediate stabilization and care of newborns, including medication administration and preparation for cesarean delivery when indicated
• Postpartum duties involve assessment and care of both vaginal and cesarean delivery patients and newborns, including newborn screenings, IV starts, medication administration, stabilization for transport, and specialized care such as phototherapy or hypoglycemia management
• Must be able to provide care for newborns experiencing opiate withdrawal and help with circumcisions
• Team support and orientation provided at assignment start

Requirements

• Active NM or compact RN license required
• Minimum two years current experience in labor and delivery
• Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) required
• Current BLS certification through AHA, American Health and Safety, or ARC
• NRP certification required
• AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced fetal monitoring certification required
• Must pass Basic Cardiac Arrhythmia (BCA) testing during the first week of assignment; failure to pass will result in dismissal
• Epic EMR experience preferred, but not required
• Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not eligible
• Former permanent staff must wait one year before being considered as a traveler
