Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a Level 1 trauma assignment requiring a minimum of 3 years recent ICU experience, including neuro or cardiovascular specialty.

Responsibilities

  • Hospital ICU setting consisting of trauma neuro surgery, medical cardiac, and overflow ICUs
  • Cares for trauma patients, neuro and specialty surgery, respiratory failure, sepsis, ARDS, and post-surgical cases
  • Level 1 Trauma Center with 32-bed surgical ICU, 36-bed medical cardiac ICU, and 12-bed overflow ICU
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2 or 1:1 depending on acuity
  • Night shift with 12-hour shifts and self-scheduling
  • Weekend requirement: minimum three weekend shifts per four-week schedule
  • Required to float to telemetry with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:3 or 1:4 as needed; float between all three ICUs
  • No monitor techs; RNs interpret their own strips with GE monitors
  • Uses Cerner EMR; experience preferred but not explicitly required
  • Requires titration of multiple drips including propofol, fentanyl, levophed, vasopressin, and others
  • RT staff present 24/7; equipment includes Dreager, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840 vents, V60 BiPap, Airvo
  • Expected to provide care for complex trauma, neuro, and cardiovascular ICU patients
  • Charge nurses are available on the units and do not take patient assignments
  • No CNA support; only sitters or health unit secretaries are present
  • Hospitalist or intensivist support and respiratory therapists available 24/7 in ICU
  • Skills validation for trauma, neuro, and specialized devices performed as needed
  • Unit/department-specific orientation provided for 1-2 days
  • Scrub color is navy
  • May have one holiday off during assignment, with holiday coverage expected otherwise
  • First-time travelers with sufficient experience are considered

Requirements

  • Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum 3 years recent ICU experience required, with experience in either neuro or cardiovascular ICU
  • Current certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
  • Must pass the UNA Dysrhythmia Exam (max 2 attempts) within 24-48 hours prior to position acceptance
  • Must successfully complete a pass/fail Sim Lab on Day 1 of orientation
  • Must provide two references: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months and one from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years
  • Driver's license required for consideration
  • Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility and must not have been employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity in the past year
