Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring a NC or compact RN license and strong cardiac and stroke skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 23-bed Med/Surg Tele unit within a hospital setting
• Patient population includes cardiac (chest pain), stroke, syncope, dizziness, respiratory illness, and various diagnoses
• Typical RN to patient ratio is 1:4-5
• Electronic Medical Record system is EPIC
• Required to work every other weekend and 75% of holidays
• Floating required within Region 1, which includes multiple hospitals and freestanding emergency departments
• Mid-shift floating paid for travel time
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Responsibilities include comprehensive care of patients with complex medical and telemetry needs, including stroke and cardiac management
• Support staff includes supervisor, charge RN, RT, hospitalist, phlebotomy, and IV/VAT team
• Travelers are oriented with NEO and two days of departmental training
• Great team environment with supportive culture and team activities
• Will consider first-time travelers, though experienced travelers are preferred

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license
• Minimum of 2 years recent Med/Surg Telemetry experience
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification required for Resource Team
• Ability to interpret cardiac rhythms, manage stroke cases, perform trach care, PIV starts, chest tube and drain management, and administer medication drips (cardiac, heparin, blood products, IV fluids)
• Experience with Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing
• Professional reference from a current or recent supervisor required
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the home unit
