Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift ICU position requiring a GA or compact RN license, BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 12-bed ICU within a level 3 trauma hospital
• Patient census typically ranges from 6 to 10
• Treats medical ICU patients with diagnoses including respiratory failure, sepsis, GI bleed, DKA, ARDS, and stroke
• Manage chronic ventilators, trachs, and hemodynamically unstable patients requiring invasive monitoring
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:1–2, rarely 1:3
• 12-hour night shifts (7PM-7AM) with a 6-week rotating schedule
• Required to work 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule or every other weekend
• Must work one winter holiday (12/24 or 12/25) and one New Year's holiday (12/31 or 1/1)
• No floating required except occasionally to the ER for ICU holds
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris pumps, Omnicell dispensing, and Phillips monitors
• Assist and manage bedside procedures such as tracheostomy, chest tube, and PEG tube placement
• Work closely with 24/7 respiratory therapy, hospitalists, intensivists, and central telemetry unit
• Support staff includes CNA, unit secretary, resource nurse, and phlebotomy for lab collections
• Team-oriented and busy work environment
• Navy scrubs required for RN staff

• One day facility orientation plus two days departmental orientation prior to starting

Requirements

• Active GA or compact RN license is required
• Minimum of 2 years recent ICU experience
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) knowledge required
• Proficiency in ventilator and invasive line management, vasoactive drips, cardiac monitoring, and telemetry interpretation
• Skill with trach care, chest tube management, insulin and heparin drips, and use of the Belmont Rapid Infuser
• Epic EMR experience preferred
