Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring at least 18 months of recent Med/Tele experience and a compact or NC RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in a hospital-based 27-bed Med/Surg Tele unit with an average census of 20 patients
• Patient population includes stroke, COPD, chest pain, altered mental status, and GI bleed cases
• Typical RN patient ratios are 1:5-6, with possible increases to 1:7-8 during surge staffing
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell med dispensing, and Philips monitors
• Every other weekend rotation is required
• Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
• Floating required within the region to multiple facilities in scope of practice, with paid travel time if floating mid-shift
• No on-call responsibilities
• Shifts are 12 hours, 0700-1900 or 1900-0700
• Responsibilities include managing a diverse medical patient population and performing advanced assessments and interventions
• Support provided by CNAs, charge nurse, unit receptionist (days only), phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, hospitalist coverage, and telemetry monitoring techs
• No designated IV or vascular access team is available
• Departmental orientation is provided in addition to facility onboarding
• Unit culture promotes teamwork and a positive environment
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Free parking available on site
• Travelers must be willing to float to specified regional facilities as needed
• RTO may be approved for up to 6 days, excluding holidays, with required extension to meet contracted hours

Requirements

• Active NC RN or compact state license required
• Minimum 18 months of recent Med/Tele experience required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
• Proficiency with general Med/Tele skills including stroke care, NIH assessments, chest tube management, PIV starts, trach care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, NGT placement, and drain/tube management
• Experience managing cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IV fluids required
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility
• First-time travelers will be considered but are not preferred for this position
