Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in a Level 1 trauma academic medical center, requiring a compact or NC RN license and strong Med/Surg Tele experience.

Responsibilities

• Position is on a 24-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a hospital setting
• Patient population includes general medicine with diagnoses such as diabetes, GI, respiratory, renal conditions, wounds, chest tubes, and trachs
• Typical RN to patient ratio is 5-6:1
• Shifts start at 18:30 with every other weekend rotation
• No call or call back responsibilities
• Floating required to other Med/Surg units as needed
• Uses centralized telemetry monitoring, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing
• EMR: Epic experience preferred
• Care support from CNA, receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy, and 24/7 hospitalist, intensivist, and respiratory therapist coverage
• Provide direct and indirect nursing care for a diverse adult and geriatric patient population
• Department culture emphasizes patient-centered care and strong teamwork
• Orientation includes general facility onboarding and two days of departmental training
• Royal blue scrubs required
• 75% holiday coverage required for travelers

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Minimum of 2 years recent Med/Surg Telemetry experience required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS required if assigned to Resource Team
• Experience with telemetry strip reading, chest tubes, trachs, peripheral IV insertion, drain and tube management, PCA pumps, and drips such as Amiodarone, Fentanyl, Ketamine, and Heparin
• Strong communication, collaboration, and stress tolerance skills needed
• Epic charting experience preferred
