Description

Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring a GA or compact RN license and at least 2 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Work in a Med/Surg Tele unit within a large teaching hospital with Level 1 Trauma designation
Units have 20-36 beds and serve diverse adult inpatient populations
Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-6
Common conditions include general medical/surgical cases with telemetry monitoring
Shift is 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM with every other weekend rotation
Must float to Baldwin and all Med/Surg Tele units as needed
No on-call or call-back requirements
EMR system is Epic, with Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication system, and Phillips monitors
Responsible for caring for adult med/surg and telemetry patients, managing central lines, and titrating drips according to HR
Support provided by CNAs, charge nurse, unit secretary, PICC team, 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist teams
Central telemetry unit monitors patients throughout the facility
Orientation includes one day of facility and education modules, plus two days of departmental training
Navy scrubs required for RNs
Must work one holiday per major holiday pair (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's)
Team-oriented, busy work environment with strong interdisciplinary support
First-time travelers are welcome to apply

Requirements

Active GA or compact RN license required
Current BLS certification required
ACLS preferred; must pass EKG competency exam during onboarding
Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Tele RN experience required
Skills required include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucometer use, and management of common drips such as insulin and heparin
Experience with Epic EMR preferred
