Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring a GA or compact RN license and at least 2 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a Med/Surg Tele unit within a large teaching hospital with Level 1 Trauma designation
  • Units have 20-36 beds and serve diverse adult inpatient populations
  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-6
  • Common conditions include general medical/surgical cases with telemetry monitoring
  • Shift is 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM with every other weekend rotation
  • Must float to Baldwin and all Med/Surg Tele units as needed
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • EMR system is Epic, with Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication system, and Phillips monitors
  • Responsible for caring for adult med/surg and telemetry patients, managing central lines, and titrating drips according to HR
  • Support provided by CNAs, charge nurse, unit secretary, PICC team, 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist teams
  • Central telemetry unit monitors patients throughout the facility
  • Orientation includes one day of facility and education modules, plus two days of departmental training
  • Navy scrubs required for RNs
  • Must work one holiday per major holiday pair (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's)
  • Team-oriented, busy work environment with strong interdisciplinary support
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply

Requirements

  • Active GA or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS certification required
  • ACLS preferred; must pass EKG competency exam during onboarding
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Skills required include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucometer use, and management of common drips such as insulin and heparin
  • Experience with Epic EMR preferred
