Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a high-acuity Ortho/Trauma Med/Surg position on night shift with IN or Compact RN license required.
Responsibilities
- Work in an Ortho/Trauma Med/Surg unit within a hospital setting
- Patient population consists of approximately 20% ortho (hip and knee surgeries) and 80% trauma cases (MVAs, shootings, stabbings, falls)
- Patients may have drains and tubes and are typically post-surgical or transferred from ICU
- Staffing ratio is 1:5-6
- Night shift schedule, three 12-hour shifts per week (19:00 to 07:30)
- Required to work 50% of weekends during contract based on unit needs
- Floating may be required to Med-Surg, PCU, ICU, or nearby affiliate hospitals
- Uses Cerner EMR system; Cerner experience required
- May be asked to precept or have students shadow during assignment
- Training and resources provided for charge nurse responsibilities if needed based on operational requirements
- Travelers are expected to make up missed shifts during the pay period or at the end of the contract
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during assignment
- First-time travelers are accepted for this unit
- Perm or PRN employees must be away for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
- Local candidates are not accepted for MS, MS Tele, PCU, ICU, and ER positions
- Up to 5 days of RTO can be auto-approved
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license in hand at the time of consideration or proof of fingerprint application submitted
- Minimum of 18 months to 2 years of relevant Med/Surg experience required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required; ACLS preferred; both AHA and RQI certifications accepted if current
- Graduate of an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
- Cerner charting experience is required
- Strong teamwork and communication skills essential
