Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Med/Surg position caring for adult and geriatric patients, requiring a valid IN or compact RN license and BLS/NIHSS certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in a short-term acute care hospital on an adult/geriatric Med/Surg unit
• Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses such as thoracentesis, COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, CVA, hypoxia, electrolyte imbalances, weakness, hypertension, small bowel obstruction, altered mental status, and renal failure
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6
• Night shift schedule, 4x12 hour shifts, 17:00-05:30
• Must be willing to float within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital
• Every other weekend is required
• Must be willing to take charge when asked
• Charting is completed in Cerner; prior Cerner experience is required
• Scrub color is red top and black pants
• Free on-site parking
• Must be willing to take on charge nurse responsibilities if requested
• All travelers may be floated within the hospital or to a nearby affiliated facility as needed
• Candidates are required to work at least 2 out of the 3 major holidays
• Up to 5 days of requested time off (RTO) may be auto-approved per assignment
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Hospital reinforces team support for floating and unit coverage

Requirements

• Active IN or compact RN license in hand at the time of consideration
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required (AHA and RQI accepted)
• Minimum of 18 months to 2 years Med/Surg RN experience required
• Graduate from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
• Cerner EMR experience required
• Previous charge nurse experience is preferred but not required
• First-time travelers are accepted
• Must be able to provide documentation such as license verification, certifications, and references
• No local candidates accepted for this position; locals only accepted for certain periop, allied, and clinic positions
• Former permanent or PRN employees must be separated for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
