Description

Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 3 NICU position requiring a SD or compact license and expertise in neonatal critical care.

Responsibilities

  • Position is in a Level 3 NICU with 28 beds and an average census of 13-16 patients
  • Provides care to neonates of all gestational ages, including cases such as low birth weight, feeders/growers, high frequency ventilation, nitric oxide, and total body cooling
  • RN patient ratios range from 1:1 to 1:4, depending on acuity
  • 12-hour variable shifts are required, with options for 36 or 48-hour contracts
  • Care is provided using EPIC EMR, with Alaris pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing systems
  • Floating may be required to PICU, Pediatrics, Postpartum, Newborn Nursery, or for adult constant observation overflow
  • Weekend rotations are not required, but travelers may work mostly weekends
  • On-call is required only for low census situations
  • Holiday work is expected for 2 out of 4 major holidays
  • Responsibilities include advanced neonatal care and collaboration on delivery attendance
  • Unit support includes a charge nurse, CNA, respiratory therapy, 24/7 neonatologists, NNP coverage, a transport team, and lactation consultants
  • General traveler orientation and one day/one night of unit orientation provided
  • Scrub color is navy
  • Free parking is available
  • Time off must be pre-approved by management
  • First-time travelers are accepted with 2+ years NICU experience

Requirements

  • Active SD or compact RN license required
  • Minimum of 1.5 years recent NICU experience required (2+ years of experience required for first-time travelers)
  • Current certifications: BLS, NRP, and PALS required; STABLE preferred
  • Completion of an approved nursing education program
  • Experience with vent management, IV starts, chest tubes, and IV medication titration required
  • EPIC charting experience preferred, approval required if no prior EPIC experience
  • Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility
  • Previous permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler
