Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN with a valid NC or compact RN license and a strong general ED skillset for a busy hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Work in an Emergency Department with 43 beds, including 8 Clinical Decision beds for behavioral health and 4 beds for administrative use or patient holding
• Serve a patient population ranging from pediatric to geriatric, with general ED cases such as trauma stabilization, respiratory illness, stroke, behavioral health, acute MI, and minor trauma
• Typical RN-to-patient ratio is 1:3-4, depending on acuity
• Average daily census is about 145 patients with a 25-30% admission rate
• Utilizes EPIC as the electronic medical record system
• Works 12-hour night shifts (1900-0700) with every other weekend required
• Must float as needed within Region 2, including nearby hospitals and freestanding EDs, per facility needs
• No on-call responsibilities
• Responsibilities include providing comprehensive emergency care, supporting trauma stabilization, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team
• Support staff includes HCT/unit secretaries, paramedics, a dedicated pharmacist, social worker, scheduler, 24/7 RT, ED physicians and APPs, as well as hospitalists and intensivists
• Initial orientation includes facility onboarding and two days of departmental training
• Scrub color is navy blue
• Free parking is available on site
• Work environment is busy, welcoming, and supportive
• Expected to cover approximately 75% of holidays assigned

Requirements

• Valid NC or compact state RN license
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department nursing experience required
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, CPI required; TNCC preferred
• Demonstrated skills in cardiac rhythm interpretation, critical care drips, PIV starts, TNK/TPA administration, and conscious sedation
• Previous charge RN experience required
• Experience with EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing preferred
• Must not be a first-time traveler
• Permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility
