Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an RN for a night shift stepdown position in a flex med-surg/stepdown unit, requiring at least 1 year of experience and a WV or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 29-bed stepdown/med-surg flex unit within an acute care setting
• Diverse patient population with primarily medical diagnoses
• Nurse to patient ratio is 3:1 for stepdown and 6:1 for floor patients
• RNs are required to titrate drips including heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics, phenobarbital, ketamine, opioid PCAs, and TPN
• 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 pm to 7:30 am with every other weekend required
• First to float or be pulled to other floor/stepdown units
• Care includes use of CPAP, BiPAP, and, in stepdown, HiFlow and ventilators
• Central monitoring with remote telemetry; RNs are not expected to read their own strips
• Unit uses Philips telemetry equipment and Epic EMR
• No on-call or standby requirements
• Work alongside charge RNs, house supervisors, and Clinical Associates (CAs) providing team support
• Expected to work about half of all recognized holidays
• Scrubs must be royal blue and white
• No local travelers within a 50-mile radius allowed
• If previously employed at any WVU Medicine location, a 2-year gap is required before returning as a traveler
• Travelers may not work within WVU for longer than one year without a 2-year break (cumulative experience applies)

Requirements

• Active West Virginia or compact RN license
• Minimum of 1 year RN experience
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications through AHA required
• Experience caring for 3 stepdown or 6 med-surg patients simultaneously
• Ability to titrate ordered drips as listed
• EKG testing required for unit assignment
