Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a stepdown RN with 1 year of experience, WV or compact RN license, and required ACLS and BLS certifications for weekend day shifts.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 29-bed stepdown/med-surg flex unit within an acute care hospital setting
• Mix of stepdown and floor patients with diverse medical diagnoses
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 3:1 for stepdown and 6:1 for floor assignments
• Weekend day shifts available: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday or Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, 7:00am to 7:30pm
• Required to float to other floor/stepdown units as needed
• Utilizes Epic EMR and Phillips telemetry monitoring equipment
• CPAP, BiPAP, HiFlow, and ventilators present on stepdown; vent adjustments done in ICU
• Central monitoring provided; RNs are not required to interpret their own cardiac telemetry strips
• No call or standby requirements
• Weekend positions require working approximately half of all recognized holidays
• Royal blue and white scrubs are required
• Nurse aids, referred to as Clinical Associates, are staffed with a goal of maintaining a 1:10 ratio
• Charge RNs and house supervisors are present 24/7; new unit may initially require charge to take a patient assignment
• First to float among staff
• No local travelers allowed; must live at least 50 miles from the facility
• Returning travelers to any WVU Medicine location require a 2-year break before reapplying and cannot work as travelers for more than one consecutive year
• Must complete hospital-required testing and orientation before starting

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum 1 year RN experience, including experience managing 3:1 stepdown or 6:1 med-surg assignments
• Current AHA ACLS and BLS certifications required
• Ability to titrate drips including heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics, PCAs, TPN, phenobarbitol, and ketamine
• Ability to pass required EKG testing if assigned to facilities requiring it
