Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an RN for a 10E Stepdown position with acute care experience and a WV or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in the 10E Stepdown unit within an acute care hospital setting
• 29-bed flex unit serving both floor and stepdown patients with primarily medical diagnoses
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 3:1 for stepdown and 6:1 for med-surg cases
• 12-hour day shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., with every other weekend required
• Unit is equipped for stepdown care and includes monitoring with Phillips telemetry equipment
• Central monitoring provided; RNs are not required to interpret telemetry strips
• Common use of titratable drips such as heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics, and various analgesics
• Frequent exposure to CPAP, BiPAP, HiFlow, and ventilators for stepdown patients
• Float to other floor/stepdown units as needed
• Stepdown unit features diverse medical patient population and requires flexibility to serve varying acuity levels
• Charge RNs and House Supervisors are available 24/7; unit supported by Clinical Associates (nurse aides)
• Holiday work required for approximately half of WVUH recognized holidays
• Unit orientation provided; EKG testing may be required for select stepdown units
• No call or standby requirements
• First to float policy applies for agency nurses
• No local travelers accepted within a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Returning employees must have a two-year break from any WVU Medicine location before being considered
• Travelers may only work in the WVU system for up to one year before a mandatory two-year break

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum of 1 year of professional RN experience
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications from AHA required
• Ability to manage both stepdown (3:1) and med-surg (6:1) patient loads
• Experience using Epic EMR preferred
• RNs must be capable of safely titrating drips per provider orders
• Must comply with dress code: any combination of royal blue and white scrubs
