Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level IV Emergency Room position in Michigan requiring 2 years of ER experience and key certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute care emergency department with a Level IV trauma designation
• Unit has 14 beds including 2 trauma bays and a 3-room Fast Track area
• Patient caseload averages 40-60 ER patients daily, including traumas, MVAs, and variable diagnoses
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:3-4 during the day, higher at night, and reduced staffing after 3am
• Travelers may be required to triage after departmental policy review
• All RNs use a central monitoring station and read their own monitor strips
• Shifts are primarily 12 hours starting at 3pm or 7pm, with possible variable starts; no block scheduling available
• Required to work every other weekend, with rotation for holiday coverage
• Floating may be required to inpatient units for assistance as needed
• The unit uses a non-listed computerized charting system, with Cerner transitioning to Epic
• Travelers may participate in triage and should be comfortable with variable and acute patient needs
• Initial orientation includes computer-based training and two days of floor and department-specific orientation
• Support staff includes CNAs, medics, LPNs, and 24/7 phlebotomy and respiratory therapy coverage
• Security is not in-house 24/7; local police and internal support are available for emergencies
• Scrub attire must be any solid color, clean and professional
• First-time travelers and duos are welcome to apply
• Candidates who have previously worked as permanent staff must have a six-month gap prior to consideration
• Local candidates within 80 miles are accepted, but at a reduced bill rate

Requirements

• Active MI RN license required by start date
• Current certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), TNCC
• Minimum 2 years of recent emergency department nursing experience required
• Two professional references required: one from a supervisor in the last 12 months and one from a supervisor or peer in the specialty within the last 3 years
