Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg, Tele, and PCU Float Pool position requiring an AZ or compact RN license and strong titration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a float pool covering Med/Surg, Telemetry, PCU, and inpatient ED holding units across both campuses in an acute care setting
  • Patient population includes primarily geriatric, orthopedic, post-procedural, cardiac post-MI, and post-cardiac cath patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: PCU 1:4, Med/Surg Tele 1:5-6
  • Required to titrate a range of drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin
  • CPAP and BiPAP used at night in Med/Surg; BiPAP, CPAP, and heated high-flow oxygen in PCU units
  • Monitor techs monitor PCU and MedSurg Tele; RNs are required to interpret rhythm strips
  • Uses Cerner EMR
  • Shifts are 12 hours, 7-7 for AM and PM; every other weekend required
  • Traveler is first to float; must be flexible and may be notified of assigned campus up to 2 hours before shift start
  • No on-call or standby required
  • Solid color professional scrubs required; navy scrubs will be mandatory starting in October
  • RNs will float between Med/Surg, Tele, PCU, and inpatient ED holding units as assigned
  • Charge nurses do not take assignments and nurse aids are available in all units
  • Orientation includes one 8-hour general hospital day and two 12-hour unit-based orientation shifts
  • Travelers will be included in permanent staff holiday rotations
  • Candidates who fail the dysrhythmia or sterile technique exam twice are ineligible for future contracts with CommonSpirit in AZ or Sacramento for 6 months
  • Candidates may be assigned to either campus and should allow for a 20-25 minute commute between them

Requirements

  • Active AZ or compact (NLC) RN license required at time of application
  • Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years RN experience, with at least 1 year in a PCU setting
  • Must pass a dysrhythmia exam with a score of at least 80% in two attempts prior to contract
  • Proven experience titrating cardiac, insulin, and vasoactive drips
  • Ability to interpret rhythm strips required
  • Experience with Cerner EMR preferred
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Cannot have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from the last 12 months, and a second supervisor or peer from the past 3 years
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
