Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with an AZ or compact license, BLS and ACLS certification, and advanced critical care skills for a night shift contract.
Responsibilities
- Position is in an acute ICU setting covering a combined CVICU, COVID, MS ICU, and PCU under a critical care service line
- Unit supports cardiac, neuro, medical, surgical, and COVID patients including fresh open hearts, Impella, TAVR, VAD, CRRT, and more
- Patient ratios in ICU are 1:1-2 based on acuity; PCU ratios are 1:3-4
- Nurses participate in the float rotation and may float to PCU and MST as needed
- Night shifts with 12-hour scheduling; four weekend night shifts per pay period required
- Cerner EMR is used; EMR experience preferred
- Nurses must read their own tele strips using Nihon Khoden monitors
- On-call is unscheduled but may occur during low census
- No nurse aids on the unit; intensivists are on site 24/7
- RNs are responsible for telemetry monitoring, titrating critical care drips, and advanced device management
- Travelers are first to float and will provide care in all units within the critical care service line
- Required to wear professional scrubs; any color is allowed except camo, with transition to navy in October
- Orientation includes 8 hours general hospital training and 1-2 shifts with a preceptor and buddy system as needed
- Holiday coverage includes at least one winter holiday and one holiday eve per contract
- Must take and pass a sterile technique exam on day one of orientation
- Charge nurses normally do not take patients except in emergencies; there is 24/7 house supervisor coverage
- No block scheduling; some self-scheduling is possible but subject to manager review
- First time travelers are considered
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license in hand by time of consideration
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
- Advanced EKG reading and dysrhythmia recognition skills required
- Must pass hospital-administered dysrhythmia exam prior to contract signing
- Experience titrating all critical care drips including pressors, paralytics, sedation, antiarrhythmics, and anticoagulants
- Prefer experience with IABP and Prismaflex CRRT
- Proficient in ventilator weaning and troubleshooting
- Ability to interpret ABGs, and manage complex cardiac and neuro critical care patients
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Cannot have worked as full time, part time, or PRN for CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year
- Submission requires recent supervisor and peer references and copy of driver’s license
