Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a critical access ER/MedSurg/Swing Bed position with night shifts and strong geriatric care skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in a critical access hospital on the ER, MedSurg, and Swing Bed units
• Unit has 25 beds and primarily serves geriatric patients
• Patient diagnoses include dementia, diabetes, post-acute rehab, wounds, initial trauma care, chronic illness exacerbation, and COVID
• Nurse to patient ratios are approximately 1:8 with team nursing approach
• RNs must titrate drips including electrolytes, hypertensive medications, IV antibiotics, and blood transfusions
• Use of EPIC EMR is required
• RNs read and interpret their own telemetry/monitor strips
• Night shifts are 12 hours (1845-0715), with every other weekend and rotating holidays
• Floating may be required between ER and MedSurg units
• Responsibilities include direct patient care for both acute emergencies and med/surg needs, including initial trauma stabilization
• Team nursing is utilized with support from nurse aides on each shift
• Block or team scheduling is possible with prior request
• Scrubs are required, with no specific color mandated
• Orientation includes 3 unit-specific shifts and 12 hours of general orientation
• Charge nurse is present each shift and participates in team nursing assignments
• No on-call requirements
• Holiday coverage alternates as scheduled, typically every other holiday

Requirements

• Active unrestricted ND or Compact RN license required at time of consideration
• Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications required
• Strong skills in dementia care, stroke management, and geriatric skin care
• Experience with titrating medication drips
• Ability to interpret cardiac monitor strips
• Submission must include a copy of driver’s license
• Must provide 2 recent professional references, including one supervisor from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years, with dates of employment and rehire eligibility
• May not have been a direct employee (full time, part time, or PRN) of CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year
• Must reside at least 50 miles from facility
• RTO of 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract must be requested up front; no additional RTO will be approved
