Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position in an acute Level 1 trauma setting requiring at least 2 years of recent med/surg experience and valid AZ or compact RN licensure.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 22-bed Med/Surg acute care unit within a hospital
• Level 1 trauma environment with post-op, sepsis, pneumonia, COPD, diabetes, and infection patients
• Nurse to patient ratios typically 1:4-5
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts, with 4 weekend shifts required every 4 weeks
• Holiday coverage required based on unit needs
• Floating required, primarily to other med/surg and tele units, with travelers first to float
• Uses Cerner EMR
• SIMs Lab proficiency assessment required for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
• Required to pass DYS exam prior to acceptance
• Required to maintain competence in sterile field, Foley catheter insertion, and central line dressing changes
• SIMs Lab is pass/fail and failure can result in termination
• RT support assigned to the unit for respiratory needs
• No patient care techs or CNAs; utilizes resource and charge RNs for support
• Self-scheduling in 4-week blocks
• Required to wear navy blue scrubs
• Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing; natural hair color and no facial piercings required
• Not suitable for first-time travelers
• Returning travelers must not have been employed by CommonSpirit within the past year

Requirements

• Active AZ or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
• Minimum 2 years recent Med/Surg RN experience in an acute care setting
• BLS certification required
• Must have Level 1 trauma experience
• Telemetry experience preferred, especially for potential floating
• Ability to pass pass/fail SIMs Lab skills and DYS exams with 2 attempts
• Compliance with 50-mile radius rule based on driver's license
• Must provide copies of driver's license and required certifications
• Two professional references: one supervisor from the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years
• No previous direct employment with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity) within the past year
