Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a night shift position requiring 3 years of ICU experience and proficiency with balloon pumps and vent management.

Responsibilities

• Position is in a combined CCU/ICU within an acute care hospital setting
• Unit has 10 beds with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2-3, and 1:5-6 when floated to IMC
• Patient population includes cases such as respiratory distress, post-arrest, acute MI, balloon pumps, and patients requiring vasopressor support
• Nurses manage drips including vasopressors, levo, neo, epi, nitro, heparin, and angio
• 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required
• May be assigned to the holiday rotation as needed
• Travelers are first to float and may be required to float to any inpatient unit
• Cerner is used for charting; experience preferred
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Unit is not a closed ICU; primary physicians manage patient care and intensivists are on call at night
• Respiratory therapists available 24/7 and handle respiratory equipment, but RNs are expected to troubleshoot equipment as needed
• Charge nurses are present on every shift and take full patient assignments
• Nurse aides or patient care techs are available midnight to 7 PM, but not around the clock
• All staff are required to wear navy blue scrubs
• Includes one day of general orientation and one day with a preceptor
• First-time travelers will be considered
• Holiday and floating requirements apply
• Candidates with prior employment at a WVU Medicine facility must have a 2-year break before reapplying

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license
• Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• A minimum of 3 years of ICU nursing experience is required
• Must have experience with balloon pumps, vent management, and drip titration
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting telemetry strips
• Must live at least 50 miles from the facility; local travelers are not accepted
• Copy of an unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
