Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position with night shifts and telemetry interpretation required.
Responsibilities
- Work in an acute care hospital on a 48-bed MedSurg/Telemetry unit
- Patient population includes COVID, respiratory, GI, diabetic, telemetry, TIA, CVA, as well as general, orthopedic, and spinal surgical patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5
- RN is required to interpret telemetry strips at least once per shift
- Remote monitor techs read and post tele strips
- Bipap, Cpap, and high flow oxygen equipment are used on the unit
- Night shifts, 12 hours (7:00 pm - 7:30 am) with every other weekend required
- Self-scheduling with manager approval for final schedule
- May float to East Campus or PCU if qualified
- No on-call responsibilities
- Navy blue scrubs required
- RN must interpret and document telemetry strips each shift
- Support includes charge nurses not taking patient assignments and nurse aides with a 1:10-15 ratio
- One unit-specific orientation shift provided
- Holiday coverage required for major holidays including Christmas, New Year's, and Thanksgiving
- First to float and floating expected within campus and potentially to PCU
- Permanent residence of at least 50 miles from the facility required for candidates residing in AZ, NV, NE, IA, or MN
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg Telemetry nursing experience
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
- Experience reading basic telemetry strips and caring for general and orthopedic surgical, CVA, and TIA patients required
- Cerner EMR experience recommended due to limited orientation
- Must provide a copy of driver’s license
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years
- Must pass Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer
- Must pass sterile technique test for Foley insertion and central line dressing changes during orientation
- Candidates employed directly (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the last year are not eligible

Traveler friendly, good ratios, great scheduling, decent providers, Uses tiger text to communicate with most doctors. Plenty of hiking activities. Close to Sedona, Flagstaff and Phoenix. 5:1 Med/tele and 3:1 PCU.
Cons
Cost of living is High, roughly $2000-2500 for your own private space. Float between East and West Campus, 25 minutes apart, west will likely be where you spend 75% of your shifts so pick your housing accordingly.
