Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift PCU/Stepdown position in an acute care setting with a NE or compact license and strong critical care skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a 35-bed Progressive Care (Stepdown) Unit within an acute care hospital
  • Patient population consists of adults and geriatrics with cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetes, and continuous EEG monitoring needs
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5
  • Required to titrate drips including Cardizem, beta blockers, and seizure medications
  • Uses Epic EMR system
  • Night shifts are 12 hours (6:30pm-7:00am)
  • Required to work every other weekend and every third holiday
  • Floating may be required to medical floors, ICU, or rehab units
  • Charge nurse and nurse aides/patient care techs are present on each shift
  • This is a fast-paced work environment that values teamwork, a positive attitude, and strong communication skills
  • First week includes onboarding and 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation
  • Holiday coverage is required for assigned holidays
  • Artificial nails are prohibited for all patient care providers
  • RTO must be submitted up front, limited to 7 days or less per 13-week contract; no additional RTO will be approved
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role

Requirements

  • Active NE or compact RN license in hand; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of recent acute care Stepdown or PCU experience required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Must pass an open book skills exam with a score of at least 90% during orientation
  • Driver's license required for consideration to confirm address outside 50-mile radius
  • Candidate may not be full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit within the past year
  • References required: one supervisor from the previous 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years
