Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool position requiring ACLS and BLS certifications and the ability to interpret telemetry strips.

Responsibilities

• Position covers the Med/Surg and Telemetry Float Pool in an acute care hospital
• Frequent floating to 6N (36 beds) and 7N (29 beds); may also float to 4N, 5S, 6S, and Critical Care
• Primary patient population includes CHF, cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, orthopedic, and oncology (no chemo administration required for travelers)
• Nurse to patient ratios are typically 1:5-6, with possible assignments up to 1:7 based on acuity
• Telemetry monitoring with Phillips equipment; RNs are required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips
• Monitor techs are present on most units
• No drip titration required for travelers
• Uses Epic EMR system
• Standard 12-hour shifts (7a-7p or 7p-7a), every other weekend required (Saturday/Sunday)
• Participation in holiday rotation with permanent staff
• Float pool assignments are provided by the clinical coordinator at the start of each shift
• Royal blue scrubs are required for this position
• Travelers will not be assigned chemotherapy administration
• All units are supported by CNAs
• RT manages CPAP and BiPAP equipment; no ventilator or advanced respiratory management required for RNs
• Float pool RNs will be assigned to basic telemetry patients within their scope of practice
• 1-2 shifts of unit orientation with a preceptor are provided
• First time travelers are welcome to apply
• Travelers may not have worked at any WVU Medicine location in the past 2 years
• Travel assignments within WVU Medicine are limited to one year, after which a 2-year break is required

Requirements

• Active RN license in WV or compact state required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum of 2 years recent RN experience required
• Must pass a cardiac rhythm/EKG interpretation exam before assignment
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips is required
• Previous acute care Med/Surg and Telemetry experience strongly preferred
• Epic EMR experience is preferred but not required
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be considered
