Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Emergency Department role requiring ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, and a WV or compact license.
Responsibilities
- Position is in an acute care ER that is a P4 Trauma Center
- 28-bed ED with 2 designated trauma/code rooms and a fast-track area
- Treats a diverse patient population including infant through geriatric, handling trauma, cardiac, sepsis, and overdose cases
- RN to patient ratio is 1:4
- Night shift schedule: 6:45 pm to 7:15 am, three 12-hour shifts per week, every other weekend, and holidays as needed
- Block scheduling allowed though specific rotations (such as 6 on/8 off) are not guaranteed
- Uses Epic EMR system
- No floating or on-call required
- RNs are responsible for managing their own ER holds unless additional float staff are provided
- Support includes 24/7 in-house security, ED physicians, mid-levels, ER techs, and house supervisor
- Respiratory therapy available 24/7 by call to ER, with equipment such as vents, Cpap, BiPap, and high flow oxygen available
- Orientation includes general hospital orientation, full nursing orientation, computer training, and two 12-hour precepted shifts
- Solid navy scrubs are required for RN/LPNs; solid color undershirts and closed-toed shoes only
- Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates not eligible
- Past employees must have a two-year break from any WVU Medicine location before reapplying as traveler
- First day includes hospital and unit-specific orientation
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Minimum of 1 year recent ER experience required
- Certifications required: ACLS, BLS (AHA), PALS, TNCC
- Experience with critical care skills, including management of cardiac dysrhythmias, critical drips, BiPap, Cpap, mechanical ventilation, and radial ABG draws
- Ability to interpret bedside monitor strips, as there are no dedicated monitor techs

Schedule could use some work, alternating weekends vs every 4th weekend. The hospital could be cleaner. The equipment works but is limited to two rooms for all patients, inpatient, outpatient, and ER- 2 rooms with 2 portables.
