Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position with telemetry and neuro experience, IN or compact RN license required.
Responsibilities
- Work in a hospital-based Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting
- Patient population includes CVAs, hydrocephalus, brain tumors and resections, seizures, TBIs, trauma and large wound cases, and GI surgeries
- Typical staffing ratios are 1:3-4, with 5 only during emergencies
- Proficient telemetry and neuro care required, including management of drips
- May be assigned as charge nurse based on operational needs, with training provided
- Must be flexible to work days (3x12 hour shifts, 7:00-19:30) and 50% of weekends during the contract
- Floating may be required to Med-Surg, ICU, or affiliate hospitals within the system
- Cerner EMR is used and experience is required
- May be required to precept or have students shadow on assignment
- Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned with training and support
- Must be willing to float with resources provided
- Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the assignment
- RTO of up to 5 days may be auto-approved
- Call-ins for contracted shifts must be made up per contract requirements
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license in hand
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications (AHA or RQI accepted)
- Minimum 18 months - 2 years of recent PCU experience required
- Proficient in telemetry, neuro care, and management of drips
- Experience with conscious sedation and Level 1 trauma preferred
- Graduation from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
- First-time travelers are accepted
- Not accepting local candidates for PCU positions
- Must not have been a perm or PRN employee at the health system within the past 12 months
