Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an Occupational Therapist experienced with pediatric populations and sensory integration for a variable schedule at a psychiatric hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a psychiatric hospital providing both inpatient and outpatient care
  • Primary focus is on the inpatient tween unit with approximately 12 pediatric patients per day
  • Patient population ranges from ages 5 to 18 with diagnoses including ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, and ODD
  • OT team provides evaluations, individual treatment, and therapeutic groups to pediatric patients
  • Use of specialized equipment including swings, crash pads, vibroacoustic chairs, trampolines, and more
  • Cerner Millennium EMR is used in the facility
  • Variable shift schedule, generally 8-hour shifts for a 40 hour work week with potential for early morning start and weekend rotations
  • Cross coverage to adolescent and younger pediatric units as needed
  • Deliver patient-centered care with a high level of clinical reasoning and adaptability
  • Participate in a collaborative treatment team including recreational therapists, psychiatric nurses, and clinicians
  • Treatment team meets three times weekly for plan updates and support
  • Mandatory hospital orientation includes self-protection, de-escalation, and restraint training, plus 1-2 week unit orientation with OT staff
  • Business casual attire is required; jeans allowed with closed-toe shoes and hair up if long
  • Free parking on campus available
  • Flu vaccination is required for all start dates after 9/30/2024, with medical exemptions reviewed case by case
  • Supportive team culture focused on collaboration and helping one another
  • First-time travelers with pediatric experience will be considered

Requirements

  • Current Maine Occupational Therapy license required if applicable
  • OTR certification from NBCOT
  • Current BLS certification
  • Minimum 2 years of pediatric occupational therapy experience in any setting
  • Proficiency in sensory integration and executive functioning interventions preferred
  • Experience with group facilitation and therapeutic milieu preferred
  • Comfort with standardized assessments for evaluations
  • Must not have worked at any Northern Light Health Hospital in a permanent position
  • Perm address must be 100+ miles south or southwest of Bangor, ME for consideration
