Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a Level 1 Trauma setting with night shifts and Cerner EMR experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a hospital Adult ICU Pods with SICU, MICU, and Trauma ICU, totaling 120 beds
  • Patient population includes medical, surgical, and trauma cases such as sepsis, transplants, heat stroke, and MVAs
  • RNs required to titrate common drips and read their own cardiac strips
  • Utilizes respiratory equipment including vents (Cervo I), Jets, and Oscillators
  • Cerner EMR in use; prior Cerner experience preferred
  • 12-hour night shifts with self-scheduling, but rebalanced by scheduling staff as needed
  • Required to float among all ICU areas, MedSurg, Tele units, and possibly to another hospital campus
  • Three weekend shifts required every four weeks
  • Holiday coverage based on staff rotation
  • Orientation includes 2 shifts on the floor and mandatory Day 1 SIMs Lab
  • Intensivist and respiratory therapist coverage 24/7 in the ICU
  • Typical bedside procedures include bronchs, trachs, and hemodialysis catheter placements
  • Team structure involves rotating through medical, surgical, and trauma ICU settings
  • SIMs Lab is pass/fail with employment contingent on passing
  • Scrub color is navy
  • Returning candidates must not have been employed by the health system within the last year
  • RNs are required to maintain sterile technique during frequent procedures
  • Holiday coverage and expectations are based on core staff rotation
  • Travel teams must have their own vehicles

Requirements

  • Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Minimum 2 years recent ICU experience in a 600+ bed teaching hospital
  • Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
  • Must have prior Level 1 Trauma experience
  • Ability to interpret telemetry independently
  • Must pass dysrhythmia exam prior to offer, with up to 2 attempts
  • SIMs Lab pass required on Day 1, including sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
  • Must provide copy of driver’s license for address verification (50-mile radius rule applies)
  • Men must be clean shaven for fit test; only natural hair color permitted; facial piercings not allowed
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from past 12 months and one peer/supervisor from past 3 years
