Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Operating Room position in a Level 1 trauma environment requiring an AZ or compact RN license and at least 2 years of experience.
Responsibilities
- Position based in a hospital acute care setting within the Neurosurgery Operating Room
- Handles a patient population with neurological needs including procedures such as craniotomies, brain tumors, carotid surgeries, spine fusions, lumbar procedures, scoliosis corrections, shunt placements, brain biopsies, deep brain stimulation, and tumor ablations
- Unit consists of 11 operating suites with 400-450 cases per month
- Staffing mix of approximately 70% RNs and 30% CSTs
- Uses Cerner and Suginet EMR systems
- Typical work schedule is four 10-hour day shifts per week, 06:30am-5:00pm, with no regular weekend or on-call requirements during the contract
- May float to other ORs if general surgery background is present
- Floor-specific orientation provided including 1 week in the OR
- Participate in SIMs Lab competency assessment for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on day one, with pass/fail outcome
- Additional educational modules on lifts, restraints, and wound care are included as part of orientation
- Must comply with a 50-mile radius rule regarding residence for contract eligibility in Arizona
- Scrub attire is provided
- Holiday coverage may be required as part of the unit’s rotation
- First time travelers are considered if all requirements are met
- Team support includes 24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license is required
- Minimum of 2 years recent operating room RN experience required
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Ability to circulate and scrub is a plus; ACLS and CNOR certifications preferred
- Experience with Cerner EMR preferred
- Must provide a copy of driver’s license for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor reference from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from the last 3 years, both with employment dates and rehire eligibility
- May not have worked in a permanent or per diem capacity at any CommonSpirit facility (including CHI and Dignity) within the previous 12 months
