Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg RN with at least two years of acute care experience and a current ID or compact RN license for a night shift assignment.
Responsibilities
- Work in an acute care hospital setting on a 35-bed Med/Surg unit specializing in multiple surgical specialties and medical overflow
- Patient population includes bariatric, urology, colorectal, vascular, acute care, gynecological, plastic/breast surgery, cystic fibrosis, and medical patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:4-5 based on acuity with support from CNAs at a 1:8-10 ratio
- Requires proficiency in central lines, NG tube management, ostomies, drain management, and professional communication
- Remote telemetry monitoring is used, and RNs must be able to read strips
- Uses EPIC EMR system
- 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) with every other weekend required; holiday coverage as needed
- Floating to similar Med/Surg units at local hospitals (Meridian and Nampa) is required, with travelers floating first
- Charge nurse present on each shift without a patient assignment; travelers may be asked to act as charge if experienced
- One shift of unit-specific orientation and a didactic day with the unit educator provided
- Duties include caring for a diverse surgical and medical patient population, performing specialized procedures, and collaborating within an interdisciplinary team
- Unit features leadership support on all shifts and weekend on-call leadership coverage
- No blocked scheduling or special scheduling requests are permitted
- No specific scrub color required, but attire must be clean and professional
- No call or standby is required
- First-time travelers may be considered
Requirements
- Active ID or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum of 2 years recent Med/Surg experience in an acute care setting
- Proficiency with central lines, NG tube management, ostomies, drain management, and foley management
- Experience with continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) preferred
- Ability to read telemetry strips is required
- Must be able to provide a valid driver’s license
- Must submit two professional references: one supervisor reference from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
- Facility requires candidates to reside more than 50 miles away from the hospital
- Permanent employees must be separated for at least one year before applying for a travel position

L&D Unit is Traveler friendly for CST roll as well as RN roll. Work load is very manageable. Great staff support.
