Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry Stepdown unit, requiring at least 2 years of recent experience and a WV or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 43-bed Cardiac Telemetry Stepdown unit within an acute care hospital
• Patient population includes post-heart caths, TR Bands, CHF, COPD, post-pacers (no external pacers), arrhythmias, and those awaiting CABG consults
• Nurse-to-patient ratios average 1:5, occasionally flexing to 1:6
• 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required for travelers
• Self-scheduling is available, with the potential for a block schedule based on unit needs
• EMR system used is Epic
• Floating required and may include ICU or other stepdown units; only assigned patients within skillset
• Must be able to read cardiac strips and perform EKGs as needed
• Titration of Heparin drips required; Cardizem and Amiodarone are not titrated
• Occasional use of high-flow oxygen, Bipap, and Cpap for temporary supportive therapy
• RN is responsible for admissions and discharges, with frequent patient turnover daily
• Supportive team environment with 24/7 charge nurse and patient care techs; teamwork is highly valued
• Unit provides 1 day of computer training and 1 day of shadowing before independent practice
• Royal blue scrubs required; only actual scrub jackets permitted as outerwear
• May be required to work holidays based on unit coverage needs
• Must pass EKG testing if required by the facility
• First-time travelers are welcome and will receive support and teaching as needed

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum of 2 years recent relevant RN experience
• Current BLS and ACLS (AHA) certifications required
• Experience in stepdown or cardiac telemetry setting required
• Must be able to read telemetry strips and perform EKGs
• Must be comfortable titrating Heparin drips
• COVID-19 vaccination required unless a valid medical or religious exemption is approved
• Submission must include an unexpired driver’s license copy
• No local travelers; must reside more than 50 miles from facility
• Cannot have worked within any WVU Medicine location within the last 2 years and total travel assignment at WVU cannot exceed 1 year without a 2-year break
