Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical Acute Care Med/Surg position in Illinois requiring an active IL RN license and BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 20-bed Medical Acute Care Med/Surg unit in an acute care hospital setting
• General medical patient population with occasional telemetry patients monitored by central station
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 on day shift and 1:5-6 on night shift
• Patient care techs provide support with ratios of 1:6-7 on day shift and 1:10 on night shift
• Phillips telemetry monitors used; RNs are not required to interpret strips
• Uses Epic EMR system
• 12-hour night shifts
• Every other weekend required
• Float requirements apply, with travelers floating first according to rotation
• Holiday requirement is three out of six major holidays annually
• Charge nurse and house supervisor are available 24/7 to provide support on each shift
• Orientation includes 12 non-billable hours and unit-specific onboarding
• No vents or respiratory therapy equipment required on unit
• No specific scrub color required
• No COVID-19 vaccination requirement
• Local candidates within 50 miles are eligible, but a local pay rate applies
• Holiday scheduling is determined by hospital standards
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply

Requirements

• Active and unencumbered IL RN license at the time of consideration
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
• Minimum one year of recent general medical/surgical nursing experience
• Experience with Epic EMR preferred
• Strong teamwork and communication skills required
• Negative drug screen required for all panels
