Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU float pool position requiring 2 years of specialty experience and flexibility to work nights and float among multiple critical care units.

Responsibilities

  • Work in the Clinical Support Unit Float Pool covering ICU in acute care hospital settings
  • Float among ICUs and other specialty units (ER, MedSurg, Tele, L&D/PP, NICU) at multiple nearby facilities
  • Nurse to patient ratio in ICU is generally 1:1-2
  • Night shifts from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., with weekend coverage as needed
  • Travelers are the first to be floated and may float mid-shift to different units or facilities, but will remain within their specialty
  • EPIC charting system is used
  • ICU RNs will only float within their specialty and may act as 1:1 sitters if needed
  • A dedicated float pool leadership and support team is available 24/7
  • Three shifts of unit-specific orientation are provided
  • No specific scrub color is required as long as attire is clean and professional
  • Safe parking is available at all facility locations
  • Holiday coverage may be required based on need
  • No self-scheduling; assignments are communicated via app one hour before shift
  • No on-call requirements

Requirements

  • Active ID or Compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Current BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Experience titrating critical care drips required
  • Ability to read and interpret telemetry for ICU, ER, Tele and PICU settings
  • Provide two references including one from a supervisor within the last 12 months and another from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years
  • Copy of driver’s license and active certifications required
  • Permanent employees must have a one-year break before returning as a traveler
  • Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius from all assigned facilities
