Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a combined ER/Med Surg position requiring ACLS, BLS, and NRP certifications with a rotating schedule and call requirements.

Responsibilities

• Position based in a critical access hospital with responsibilities in both the ER and Med Surg units
• Care for both emergency and general medical-surgical patient populations
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio in Med Surg is 3-4:1 depending on census and acuity
• Unit has 25 beds
• Work schedule rotates between day and night 12-hour shifts totaling 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend and holiday coverage required
• Three call shifts required over the 13-week contract
• Floating between ER and Med Surg units as needed
• Utilizes Epic EMR; experience will be provided during orientation
• Uses Sanford One Charge and Pixis medication systems
• Provide patient care across both ER and Med Surg, including responding to acute emergencies and managing routine medical-surgical cases
• Participation in one day of ER and one day of Med Surg training as part of orientation
• Must comply with navy scrub dress code; no logos, white may be worn under uniform or as lab coat
• Holiday coverage is required according to the rotation
• All clinicians must badge in and out at the facility
• Local candidates are accepted; candidates within 80 miles are considered local
• Previous employees of the health system must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration

Requirements

• Active SD or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience
• At least 6 months of recent Med Surg and ER experience within the past year
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA)
• NRP certification required, can be obtained onsite with approval
• TNCC certification preferred
• Ability to function independently in both ER and Med Surg settings
