Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN to join an efficient, trauma level 2 Emergency Department on night shifts, requiring at least two years of recent ER experience and a WV or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 32-bed Emergency Department within an acute care hospital
• Care for a diverse patient population including adults and pediatrics with a wide range of acute medical and trauma conditions
• Weekend shifts are required on an every-other-weekend schedule
• Shifts are 12 hours, nights, with rotating holiday requirements
• Patient ratios are 1:4 in the main ER, 1:5 in the 5-bed lower acuity area, and 1:4-6 in Fast Track
• Separate triage area and Fast Track unit (open 11 am - 11 pm)
• EMR system is Epic; prior Epic experience preferred
• No floating outside the Emergency Department
• Typical cases include chest pain, respiratory failure, abdominal pain, pediatric emergencies, and occasional trauma
• Admit rate is approximately 18%; ER staff typically retains admitted holds
• Work alongside a team of physicians, NPs, PAs, ER techs, and 24/7 RT and pharmacy support
• Positive, welcoming, and traveler-friendly work environment
• Royal blue scrubs are required; no false nails permitted
• Initial orientation includes 1-2 shifts with a preceptor
• Participation in the holiday rotation with permanent staff is required
• First-time travelers are welcome
• Travelers who have worked within the WVU system in the past must have a two-year break before reapplying and cannot exceed one year of cumulative experience within WVU without a break

Requirements

• Active WV RN or compact multi-state RN license required
• Minimum of 2 years recent Emergency Department experience
• Certifications required: BLS and ACLS; PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC preferred
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
• Experience with ventilators (Servo) and typical ER equipment required
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility for consideration as a traveler
• Copy of unexpired driver's license required
