Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position requiring a WV or compact RN license and at least two years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 35 to 42-bed acute care Med/Surg unit
• Patient ratios are typically 1:5-6 for both shifts
• Wide variety of patient types including altered mental status, cardiac conditions, renal patients, cancer, overflow stroke, TBI, surgical wounds, and more
• Unit uses EPIC for documentation
• Night shifts with 12-hour scheduling, three shifts per week
• Every other weekend and holiday coverage required as needed
• Floating may be required to other Med/Surg units, but not to ED or Behavioral Health
• Basic cardiac monitoring with telemetry monitored remotely; nurses must recognize fatal rhythms
• Equipment includes IVs (Heparin and Protonix drips only), Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow oxygen
• Work alongside a 24/7 in-house hospitalist and a charge nurse always present on the unit
• Pharmacy and respiratory therapy available 24/7, no dedicated IV team
• Navy blue scrubs required; navy or white jackets and undershirts, natural hair colors only, and excessive or distasteful tattoos must be covered
• 1-2 shifts of unit-specific orientation with a preceptor provided
• Must be able to recognize basic arrhythmias and respond to telemetry alerts
• No first-time travelers allowed for the WVU system
• Block scheduling may be permitted according to contract terms
• Not eligible if you have previously worked at the facility within the specified return timeframe

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg RN experience required
• Current BLS (AHA) certification required; ACLS preferred
• Experience with EPIC EMR is required
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• COVID-19 vaccination required unless approved medical or religious exemption
• Must submit an unexpired driver's license for consideration
• Previous permanent employees must have a 2-year gap since employment; travelers who have worked at any WVU facility for one year must wait 2 years before returning
