Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring recent PCU/IMC experience and a NY RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in a mixed acuity PCU with medical-surgical telemetry and med-surg patients
• Patient population includes PCU, med-surg telemetry, surgical pre- and post-op (ENT, general, trauma, ortho), with rare pediatric cases not assigned unless experienced
• Nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1:3-5 on days/weekends and 1:3-6 on nights, adjusted by acuity
• Every other weekend required
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:00
• Floating required to sister units including West 2, West 3, and Observation Unit
• Procedures performed include post-MI care, insulin protocol management, blood product administration, wound care, CVA and seizure disorder management, and more
• Equipment includes telemetry, IV infusion devices, feeding tubes, wound vacs, external CPAP/BIPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomy setups
• Uses Epic for documentation, Pyxis for medication dispensing, and SBAR for communication
• Daily duties include managing complex patient conditions in a mixed acuity environment
• Must be comfortable with a variety of surgical and medical diagnoses, as well as specialized procedures such as continuous bladder irrigation and high flow respiratory support
• Orientation is 12 hours
• Must list all time off requests at the time of application; maximum approved RTO is 7 days
• Every other weekend and holiday coverage required

Requirements

• Active NY RN license required
• At least 1 year of recent PCU/IMC nursing experience within the last 3 years
• Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
• Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias, titrate cardiac and insulin drips, and manage central and peripheral lines
• Experience in med-surg telemetry and stepdown level care
• No local candidates within 50 miles accepted
• Preferred but not required: PALS and TCAR certification
• Solid color scrubs required
