Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position caring for a broad pediatric patient population, with a focus on neurosurgical and post-op cases.
Responsibilities
- Work in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) within a hospital setting
- Patient population includes ages 0-17 with diagnoses such as respiratory, neurosurgery, and heme/onc cases; excludes cardiac surgery and dialysis
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2 based on acuity, occasionally 1:3
- Unit has 8-10 beds
- 12-hour night shifts from 18:45 to 07:15, working three shifts per week
- Weekend shifts are required every other weekend
- Float to other units as needed
- No on-call requirements
- Responsibilities include managing a variety of pediatric critical care cases, neurology post-ops, and administering chemo, IV placement, and lab draws if skilled
- Scheduling is handled by a dedicated scheduler who accommodates traveler needs while meeting unit requirements
- Maximum of 7 days of requested time off (RTO) allowed for consideration; additional RTO or call-offs may result in contract cancellation
- Scrubs are not provided; peds-friendly tops with navy blue pants, or all navy blue attire required
- Locals are accepted at the same rate as travelers
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Minimum of 2 years PICU experience required
- BLS and PALS certifications required
- Experience with neurosurgical and post-operative pediatric patients strongly preferred
- Will accept first-time travelers with at least 2 years of experience
