Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Tele Emergency Observation Unit night shift assignment requiring 18 months of recent Med/Tele experience and an active NC or compact license.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Emergency Observation Unit of a teaching hospital with 10 beds and an average daily census of 8 patients
• Patient population includes chest pain, syncope, and angina cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5; CNA ratio is 1:10
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a or 6:50p-7:10a), every other weekend required
• Travelers required to float within Region 1 facilities (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division)
• No on-call or call-back responsibility
• Supported by a supervisor, charge RN, resource RN for admissions/discharges, RT, hospitalist, and IV/VAT team
• General Med/Tele responsibilities including stroke care and cardiac drips
• Orientation includes NEO and two days of departmental training
• Travelers expected to work 75% of holiday shifts
• Up to six days off approved per contract, excluding holidays
• Scrub color is navy

• First-time travelers will be considered but are not preferred

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license
• Minimum 18 months of recent Med/Tele RN experience
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Demonstrated skills in cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain and tube management, PCA pumps
• Ability to manage medication drips including cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IV fluids
• Epic EMR experience preferred
