Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Stepdown position in an acute care setting, requiring a compact or WV RN license and strong cardiac monitoring skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 30-bed Stepdown/IMC unit within an acute care hospital
• Primary patient population includes cardiac patients, post-pneumonia, post-cath lab, seizures, ETOH-CIWA protocols, and pacemakers
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-6 depending on patient acuity
• Cardiac monitoring experience and titration of cardiac drips required, including cardizem, amio, nitro, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, and angiomax
• Uses Cerner as the EMR system
• Scheduled for 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend requirement
• Travelers are first to float and may be required to float to any inpatient unit
• Monitor tech available 24/7 but nurses must read and interpret telemetry and perform rhythm identification
• Travelers participate in holiday rotations as needed
• No on-call or standby requirements for this position
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Two-day general orientation and one day with a unit preceptor are provided
• Must be able to troubleshoot respiratory equipment in collaboration with respiratory therapy
• First-time travelers are accepted
• Former WVU Medicine employees must have a 2-year break before rehiring as a traveler
• Travelers may only work within WVU Medicine for a cumulative total of one year, after which a 2-year break is required
• Pass/fail EKG testing may be required prior to assignment

Requirements

• Active WV or compact state RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum of 2 years prior Stepdown or PCU experience required
• Must be skilled and comfortable with cardiac monitoring and titrating cardiac drips
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
• Experience working with Cerner EMR preferred
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius from the facility to be eligible
