Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care/Telemetry Unit night shift position in New York, requiring a valid NY RN license and at least two years of recent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a progressive care (PCU) and telemetry unit with acute inpatient cases, including transplant, oncology, surgical, rehab, GI/GU, and neurology populations
  • Adult patient population with a typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5
  • 12-week contract with 4x12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
  • Weekend shifts are required every other weekend
  • Floating is required within acute inpatient and may include care for ED boarders
  • Uses EPIC EMR for documentation and Omnicell for medication management
  • Specialized equipment includes Alaris pumps, Kangaroo pumps, Stryker beds, Posey alarms, and glucometers
  • Primary responsibilities include telemetry monitoring, cardiac monitoring, administering cardiac drips (no titration), and IV therapy
  • Support available from IV, pharmacy, rapid response, physical therapy, respiratory, and social services teams
  • Orientation includes one shift in skills lab and one shift on unit
  • Green scrubs must be worn
  • No RTO allowed within the first 2 weeks; a maximum of 5 days RTO allowed during the assignment
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate
  • Return staff must be gone at least one year before returning as a traveler
  • Parking provided at no cost in the employee garage

Requirements

  • Active NY RN license required at the time of application
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience (first-time travelers must have 2+ years)
  • Experience with telemetry and MS/Tele units required; ER holding preferred
  • Experience interpreting and managing dysrhythmias is required
  • Proficiency in central and peripheral line care and blood product administration
  • Ability to perform respiratory interventions including nasal cannula, oxygen, and non-invasive airway management
  • Must pass EKG exam upon arrival
  • Experience with Epic preferred but not required
  • COVID vaccine required without exception
