Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position requiring a NE or compact license and ACLS/BLS certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 19-bed acute care medical-surgical unit with private rooms
• Patient population is primarily geriatric with common cases including orthopedic surgeries, pneumonia, sepsis, wound care, cellulitis, inpatient hospice (travelers do not take hospice patients), and some pediatric RSV
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 on days and 1:5 on nights
• Night shifts, 12 hours (7:00pm-7:00am), with every third weekend and every third holiday required
• Charge nurse serves as team lead and takes patients
• Certified Nurse Aides support each shift (two CNAs on weekdays during day shift)
• Uses EPIC EMR; ability to read telemetry data strips is required
• Insulin and Cardizem drips administered; no vents managed
• Hospitalist or intensivist in-house; 24/7 respiratory therapist available
• Two-day unit-specific orientation provided
• No floating required
• Provide patient-centered care and participate in bedside shift reporting
• Scrub color for RNs is navy blue
• Exposure to a large geriatric population
• Holiday and weekend coverage required as scheduled
• First-time travelers are considered
• Pharmacy onsite during business hours with remote pharmacy coverage after hours

Requirements

• Active NE or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg RN experience
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry data strips
• Experience with EPIC EMR preferred
• Must be able to administer insulin and Cardizem drips
