Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a stepdown IMU position requiring a WV or compact license, with ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Responsibilities

• Position is in the Intermediate Care Unit (IMU) of an acute care hospital
• Unit has 30 beds with both private and semi-private rooms
• Patient population includes chest pain, CHF, arrhythmias, post-pacemaker, pre/post cath, and intermediate care overflow
• Patient ratios are typically 1:5, goal 1:4, with occasional 1:6
• 12-hour rotating day/night shifts with weekend coverage required
• All staff may be required to float to Tele or MedSurg units as needed, with ratios up to 1:7 in MedSurg
• Use of Sunrise (Allscripts) EMR is required
• Drip titration required for medications including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetolol, Nitro, Heparin, and occasionally Lasix
• Tele monitors are Nihon Kohden; RN must be able to read and interpret their own strips
• Respiratory equipment managed by Respiratory Therapy; AirVo and Respironics Bipap used
• Hospitalist is in-house 24/7; intensivist and residents available
• First day orientation includes 4 hours with HR and remaining time with unit preceptor
• After two days of unit orientation, nurses work independently
• Scrub color requirement is navy blue top and bottom with navy scrub jackets; no hoodies allowed
• Holiday coverage may be needed, but typically covered by permanent staff
• All staff are required to float as part of the rotation, including potential assignment to the Pandemic Unit
• Returning travelers to any WVU Medicine location must have a 2-year break between contracts and may not work more than one year cumulatively at WVU
• Unit is supported by CNAs, a charge nurse with patient assignment, and on-site pharmacy, IV, respiratory, and PICC/midline teams available 24/7
• Pass/fail EKG testing may be required as part of onboarding

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum of 2 years RN experience required
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips is required
• Experience with titrating drips is required
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
• Must submit an unexpired driver’s license for consideration
