Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position requiring ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications and a NE or Compact RN license.
Responsibilities
- Work in an acute care hospital on a 28-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Patient population includes adults with mixed med/surg, cardiac, and stroke cases, primarily admissions from the ER
- Nurse to patient ratio is 1:4
- Requires titration of drips such as heparin, octreotide, insulin, and maintenance IV medications
- Uses EPIC as the EMR system
- 12-hour night shifts with scheduling by unit schedulers
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage is rotated with permanent staff
- Floating may be required to Med/Surg and all areas in the hospital, including ICU/ED depending on skills
- Specialized equipment includes code carts, LUCAS Machines, hoyer lifts, and Sit and Stand devices
- Telemetry monitoring required; RNs must read and interpret telemetry
- Charge nurse present on each shift; nurse aides/patient care techs also support the unit with a 1:14 ratio
- High flow unit with frequent admissions, transfers, and discharges
- Team-focused environment with expectation for positive attitude and collaboration
- First week includes classroom orientation followed by two 12-hour shifts of unit orientation
- Required to wear navy blue scrubs
- Rotation for holiday coverage in line with permanent staff
- Only 7 days or less RTO (requested time off) allowed per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
Requirements
- Active NE or Compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years recent RN experience required
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Must pass a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
- Driver’s license required at the time of consideration for verification of 50-mile radius eligibility
- Candidates must not be currently or recently employed (within the last year) full-time, part-time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility
- References required: one from a supervisor within the past 12 months and one from a peer or supervisor within the past 3 years
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
