Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position requiring 2 years of PICU experience, an active WV or compact license, and PALS certification.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) within an acute care setting
• 20-bed PICU with an average daily census of around 15 patients
• Patient ratios are 1:1-2 in ICU and 1:3 in stepdown
• Common cases include congenital heart program, DKA, respiratory, neurosurgery, tracheostomies, ventilators, and G-tubes
• Must titrate sedation and vasoactive drips as ordered
• Uses Epic for charting and documentation
• 12-hour day/night rotating shifts with self-scheduling available
• Minimum 2 full weekends (Friday/Saturday/Sunday) per month required
• Holiday coverage included in the perm staff rotation
• Floating required within children's units, including L&D, NICU, and Acute Peds, with normal ratios applied
• Responsibilities include caring for high-acuity pediatric patients, titrating drips, and supporting diverse diagnoses
• Charge nurse and house supervisor support available; nurse aids present on both day and night shifts to assist with equipment setup and admissions
• 24/7 in-house pediatricians, residents, and APPs present on the unit
• Ventilators, CPAP, and BiPAP managed by respiratory therapists but present within the unit
• Centralized monitoring is available; strips are read off the unit
• Royal blue scrubs with kid-friendly tops are required; no t-shirts allowed
• Orientation includes Epic training, equipment competencies, and mentorship for three shifts in the PICU
• First-time travelers are accepted
• No local candidates accepted within a 50-mile radius

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required and in hand for consideration
• Current BLS and PALS certifications required
• Minimum of 2 years of PICU experience required
• Titration of sedation and vasoactive drips required
• Epic EMR experience will be covered in orientation
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility address
• COVID-19 vaccination required unless an approved medical or religious exemption is granted
• Must provide an unexpired copy of driver's license for consideration
• Returning employees must have a 2-year break from any WVU Medicine location
