Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg Tele RN with acute care experience and a WI or compact RN license for a night shift opportunity on an orthopedic, urology, and neuro unit.

Responsibilities

• Position is based in an acute care hospital setting on a 29-bed Med Surg/Tele unit specializing in ortho trauma, urology, neuro-spine, vascular, and OBGYN oncology cases
• Typical patient population includes orthopedic trauma, vascular procedures, urology surgeries, neuro-spine cases, OBGYN oncology, and acute medical admittances
• Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5 during days and 1:5-6 at night
• Common procedures include heparin drips, wound dressing changes, joint replacements, and continuous bladder irrigation
• 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend and holiday required
• Float required to other adult medical/surgical units as needed
• Cerner EMR is used, with transition to Epic in progress
• Charge nurse is present on all shifts and takes an assignment; CNAs assist with patient care based on shift
• No on-call requirement
• Primary responsibilities include patient management for varied medical and surgical diagnoses and titrating drips following a nomogram
• Telemetry techs monitor patient strips 24/7, so RNs are not required to interpret rhythm strips
• RT support available for CPAP, BIPAP, and high-flow oxygen therapy; no ventilator support on the unit
• One day of computer orientation and one to two days of unit preceptorship provided at start
• Scrubs may be any color as long as they are clean and professional
• All clinicians are required to clock in and out at the facility
• Block scheduling is utilized as much as staffing allows, but no self-scheduling is permitted
• Local candidates within 80 miles are accepted at a reduced bill rate
• Coverage for every other weekend and holiday is expected

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required by assignment start date
• Minimum 1-2 years of recent acute care RN experience required
• Current BLS certification (AHA) required
• Experience with titrating drips such as heparin, nitroglycerin, bivalirudin, cardizem, and insulin preferred
• Two recent professional references, including one from a supervisor and one from a peer or supervisor, required for consideration
• Cerner EMR experience preferred
• Former employees must have a break in service of at least 6 months with hospital approval for rehire
